When talking on the phone with NCMUG member, Donna Shore, I told her about the 24-hour long, long airplane trip I had to get to Santiago, Chile to start a cruise around Cape Horn. I mentioned that I’d be taking my iPod to listen to books on the plane which I download from audible.com (http://www.audible.com). Not planning on taking my PowerBook on the trip, I’d run out of battery power in a few hours and would then have to have a “real” book to read.

Donna asked me if I was familiar with TuneJuice from Griffin Technology. She gave me the information and I went to the website right away and ordered the device which comes with a 9-Volt battery. I bought extra batteries but forgot to pack them. Not much good sitting at home on my desk.

TuneJuice worked well and kept my iPod going for as long as I wanted in between meals, breaks, change of planes, etc., on the 24-hour flights to Valparaiso.

You can find links to this product from the Griffin site at http://www.griffintechnology.com.

Here is what the web page says about TuneJuice: “Ever run out of iPod battery without a power source in sight? TuneJuice is perfect for extending the play time of your iPod for those times when you just gotta have more than what your iPod battery can give you.

TuneJuice works with any dockable iPod or iPod mini. If your iPod has some charge, the TuneJuice will provide up to 8 hours of additional play; a completely drained iPod will get up to 4 hours. Pop a standard 9-Volt battery into the TuneJuice and keep rocking.

It’s the perfect carry-on for airplanes, road trips and ski trips. Anytime you need some serious play time and don’t have access to charge your ‘Pod, TuneJuice is a lifesaver.”

Griffin Technology recommends the use of rechargeable batteries to help reduce waste.
