What are the lists available and how do I subscribe?
NCMUG currently supports three mail lists: the Announce List, the Member List, and the Off-Topic List. You can learn more about each of these lists and how to subscribe by visiting NCMUG's Mail List Page.
I got an invitation to subscribe to the Announce List. What do I do?
All NCMUG members are encouraged to subscribe to the Announce List. This list is the primary mechanism that NCMUG uses to communicate important, up-to-date club information to its members such as meeting announcements and user group discounts. To subscribe to the Announce list, simply reply to the monthly invitation without changing the subject line. If you have difficulty getting subscribed, send an e-mail to listadmin@ncmug.org.
I just joined NCMUG and would like to get on the Announce List. What do I do?
NCMUG automatically sends Announce List invitations to all non-subscribed members near the beginning of each calendar month. If you would like to subscribe to the Announce List prior to the next automatic invitation, please send an e-mail to listadmin@ncmug.org. Please allow up to 72 hours for the list administrator to verify your club membership.
What are the mail list posting guidelines?
The posting guidelines and terms of use for the NCMUG Mail Lists are in the 'Terms of Use' section of NCMUG's Mail List Page
I'm getting too many list e-mails! I want to stay on a list but get fewer emails. What can I do?
All lists except the Announce List offer subscribers the option of receiving list e-mails either as they are posted or in a once-daily digest. This option is configurable by you and may be changed at any time. The List Maintenance section of NCMUG's Mail List Page provides easy access to the configuration pages.
What is digest mode?
All lists except the Announce List offer subscribers the option of receiving list e-mails either as they are posted or in a once-daily digest. This option is configurable by you and may be changed at any time. The List Maintenance section of NCMUG's Mail List Page provides easy access to the configuration pages.
How do I change back to non-digest mode?
All lists except the Announce List offer subscribers the option of receiving list e-mails either as they are posted or in a once-daily digest. This option is configurable by you and may be changed at any time. The List Maintenance section of NCMUG's Mail List Page provides easy access to the configuration pages.
I'm going on vacation and I don't want to receive list mail while I'm away. How do I do this?
Subscribers have the ability to disable mail delivery of list messages while they are away. NCMUG recommends this choice rather than unsubscribing from the list because both disabling and re-enabling mail delivery can be accomplished by the subscriber without intervention from a list administrator. The List Maintenance section of NCMUG's Mail List Page provides easy access to the configuration pages.
Every month I receive an invitation to subscribe to the Announce List but I really don't want to receive announcement emails. What can I do?
While NCMUG recommends that its members subscribe to the Announce List, we recognize that some members simply may not be interested and would like to stop receiving the monthly invitations. If you wish to stop receiving the invitations, we recommend that you subscribe to the Announce List and then change your mail delivery option to disable e-mails. While you will technically be on the list, you will never receive any of the e-mails and you will stop receiving the invitations. The List Maintenance section of NCMUG's Mail List Page provides easy access to the configuration pages.
I'm an NCMUG member and I'm subscribed to a list, but my post was rejected. Why?
There are several reasons your post may be rejected even though you are subscribed to a list. The lists are configured to reject any post larger than 40K, so if you have accidentally included an attachment in your post that may cause a rejection. Subscribers must send messages from the e-mail address under which they are subscribed. If you have multiple e-mail addresses, please verify that you are sending from the correct address. The list will also reject posts in which the list itself is specified in a BCC field. NCMUG recommends that its members post messages by placing the list name as the only address in the TO field and that the CC and BCC fields be left blank. If you still have questions as to why your post was rejected, please e-mail the list administrator at listadmin@ncmug.org.
I'm an NCMUG member and tried posting to a list but my post was rejected. Why?
All active NCMUG members may subscribe to the NCMUG Mail Lists; however, only list subscribers may actually post to a given list. If you were attempting to post to a list but you are not subscribed to that list, your post will be rejected. Please visit NCMUG's Mail List Page to subscribe to one of our lists.
I'm not an NCMUG member but would like to subscribe to a list. How can I do this?
The NCMUG Mail Lists are a benefit for its members and are not available to anyone without an active NCMUG membership. Club membership is inexpensive and offers many benefits in addition to the ability to subscribe to our lists. Please see the NCMUG Membership Page for more information on becoming a member.
How do I unsubscribe from a list?
NCMUG recommends that its members use the unsubscribe function only if they wish to be permanently removed from a list. Members wishing to temporarily stop receiving e-mails should change the mail delivery option instead. Members may do this or unsubscribe from a list using their configuration pages. The List Maintenance section of NCMUG's Mail List Page provides easy access to the configuration pages.
How do I change my email address?
NCMUG allows you to have only one email address on file per person. If you wish to change your email address on file, simply send an email to membership@ncmug.org requesting the change. Please allow a few days for your request to be processed. Your old email address will be unsubscribed from all the lists, and your new address will be invited to join the lists to which you were previously subscribed. If you have further questions about your list subscriptions, send an email to list-admin@ncmug.org.
How can I change my list password?
Log into your list account configuration page with our old password. The List Maintenance section of NCMUG's Mail List Page provides easy access to the configuration pages. Once you have successfully logged into the configuration page for your list subscription, you can enter a new password in the specified fields. You can also apply this new password to all lists that you subscribe to on the server by checking the "Change globally" checkbox. Warning: this will apply not only to all of the NCMUG lists, but any other list you subscribe to on the Sonic.net server. You can check which list you subscribe to on the Sonic.net servers buy clicking the "List my other subscriptions" button above the password section. Don't forget to click on the "Submit my Changes" button at the bottom of the page to effect these changes.
