MCE Macintosh Computer Expo - Saturday, October 7, 2006

MCE or Macintosh Computer Expo is NCMUG's annual fundraising event. Held each year at the Santa Rosa Junior College campus, thousands of Macintosh enthusiast come from all over the North Bay to visit with Macintosh product vendors and attend informational workshops. Since 1991 the show has grown in attendance from around 300 to over 1,000 and is now the largest Expo of it’s type in the North Bay second only to Mac World in San Francisco.

Great line up of speakers this year headlined by Photoshop guru Bert Monroy and digital photo expert Derrick Story. With over two dozen vendors showing their products, free computer recycling and great raffle prizes, this year promises to be the "intel-igent" place to be on a Saturday in October.

Two of our guest speakers, Bert Monroy and Derrick Story, will be holding half-day seminars through the Santa Rosa Junior College Community Education program on Sunday, October 8th. 	Derrick Story - "iPhoto 6 Tips and Tricks" Many of us use iPhoto to manage our digital pictures because it's powerful and friendly. But chances are this iLife application is even easier to use than most realize. In this session, Derrick Story takes you on a tour of iPhoto tips and tricks that will elevate you from novice to power user. Bring your laptop or note pad and be prepared to become master of your photo management software. After the session, Derrick will be at the O'Reilly table signing books.
	Joe Kissell - "Take Control of Running Windows on a Mac" Thanks to Boot Camp, Parallels Desktop, and other virtualization environments, those of us with Intel Macs have lots of options for running Windows. There are also ways to run some Windows apps without Windows itself! I'll show you the good, the bad, and the ugly of all these options, and help you choose the best way (if any!) to get Windows running on your own Mac.
	Janice Wendt - "Nik Photoshop filters" Janice Wendt will be presenting an in-depth look into using Nik Software filters to achieve quality professional images consistently. In this training session you will discover how Nik filters allow you to quickly and easily enhance your digital image through an expanded selection of filters and filter combinations. Learn easy steps that add professional "Polish" to your with just a few mouse clicks.

12:00pm	Jim Heid -"Getting Started with iTunes 7" The world's most popular digital jukebox just turned 7. Apple has released iTunes 7 as well as updates to the iPod line. The free iTunes 7 adds new features that enhance your listening experience, make it easier and more fun to browse your music library, let you buy and watch feature films, and more. In this session, you'll get the lowdown on what iTunes 7 brings to the digital media party from Macworld's Jim Heid, author of the world's top-selling iLife book. Have friends who use Windows? Bring them along! iTunes 7 is available for them, too. After the session, Jim will be signing copies of his book, "The Macintosh iLife '06," in our exhibit area.
	Ronnie Roche - "Backing Up and Maintaining Your Mac - Just the Basics Please!" Demystifying the backup process while assuring your hard drive is behaving today and will still be tomorrow. Join me as we look at what/how/when to backup your files. Then get a quick tour of how to keep your Mac tuned and running lean and mean.
	Barbara Heiman - "Increase your Photoshop Creativity" Barbara Heiman, SRJC Photoshop instructor, will demonstrate how the professional quality Graphic Authority Library of Photo Edges, Brushes, and Backgrounds can transform your images from boring to amazing. In the process, you will learn how to load and use brush collections, turn clip art into smart objects, and creatively frame images for both print and web.

2:00pm	Bert Monroy -"Magic of Photoshop" Let your creativity soar. In this hour Bert will take you on a magical tour of Photoshop. Your eyes will be opened to the infinite possibilities available to you. If you want to know why Photoshop has become a verb, come to this session.
2:00pm	Jon Kalb - "Better Project Management with Office 2004 for Mac" In this session, you'll learn to manage your time and business more effectively with intuitive, intelligent tools for better communication and collaboration. We'll show you how to handle multiple projects with Project Center and how to share information with anyone - whether they're next door, across town, or on a different platform.
