KEYNOTE PANEL
Topic: iFuture Continued
Facilitator: Adam Christianson
Panelists: Bryan Chaffin, Jeff Gamet, Jean MacDonald, Jason Snell, David Sparks
Time: 9:00 am – 10:00 am
The past year has seen Apple’s continued growth and surge forward in it’s phenomenal line up of iOS based consumer products. The iPhone and iPad have joined the Mac to become equal pillars forming the basis of Apple’s future hardware roadmap. With the World Wide Developer Conference 2011 (WWDC) keynote and the releases of iOS 5, OS X Lion, and iCloud, Apple is also laying out a foundation for the future of their OS, software, and cloud platforms. In using terms like “Post-PC Era” and making statements like, “We’re going to demote the PC and the Mac to just be a device” Apple seems to have laid the seeds for the next phase of the PC revolution. So what does that mean for the rest of us? Continuing the conversation begun at MCE 2010, we have gathered a panel of Apple pundits to once again offer insights and analysis of Apple’s current trends and attempt to deduce what may lie in our iFuture.

While creative professionals and students have always seen the light and used Apple Macintosh computers, the business world has traditionally shunned the Macintosh platform. Up until very recently, the only apples you’d find in business were in lunch bags. That, however, is changing. Macs are starting to pop up in the strangest places including boardrooms, corner suites, and courthouses. This session will tackle some of the most common work related tasks and explain Mac specific tools and workflows to conquer them. Topics will include: mail, task management, word processing and spreadsheets, presentation tools, PDF management, note taking, project management, and business graphics. There will also be a discussion of how to use a Mac at the workplace including networking and sharing data with PC colleagues. Attendees will learn workflows, tips, and strategies to be more efficient at working on their Macs.

Speaker: Ted Landau
Time: 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
You’re in the market for a new portable computer. The iPad is Apple’s latest breakout sensation. Will this tablet suffice as an alternative to a MacBook? Or would you be better off with a MacBook Air, Apple’s popular super-light SSD-driven laptop computer? The 11″ Air is especially noteworthy, with reviewers praising it as “Apple’s answer to netbooks” and “the iPad Pro.” Is there any reason left to even consider a traditional MacBook? What about the future? Will there be some sort of MacBook Air/iPad hybrid to consider? Ted explores the advantages and limitations of these machines in search of the answers. With iOS 5 and Mac OS X Lion expected to be out by the time of this session, we’ll also take a look at how these new OS releases affect the various choices.
